Hayling Ferry Sailing Club is holding a round-Hayling Race on Sunday 7th June with a 10am start. This is a club race but boats from local sailing clubs are welcome to take part.

The race will be in 2 halves, with leg 1 from the HFSC Club line at Langstone Harbour entrance to Langstone Bridge, and Leg 2 from the Bridge back to the HFSC Club line via the seafront. There will be a break of at least 1 hour at Langstone Bridge to get all the boats across the road, and during this time Langstone SC have very kindly offered the use of their bar area (but no wet gear in the Clubhouse please).

We will be taking launching trolleys from HFSC to Langstone Bridge. If you are a visiting boat we can take yours too, but it may be simpler if you arrange to take your trolley directly to Langstone. Please mark it so that it can be identified. The maximum width of the gate that boats must pass through is 3.3m. Light boats can be carried across the road.

Safety and Assumed ExperienceRescue cover will be provided by the Club, however the nature of the race means that most competitors will be out of visual contact with a Rescue Boat for most of the race. Competitors will need to be self-sufficient and have enough experience to cope with the prevailing conditions. All competitors must wear personal buoyancy. Wetsuits or drysuits do not constitute personal buoyancy.

Minimum AgeAny competitor under the age of 18 on the day of the race must be accompanied during the race by a responsible adult.

Sign-in and BriefingAll competitors (Helms and Crews) must sign-on for this race. Forms will be available in the HFSC Club House from 08:00 on Sunday. There will be a briefing at 09:30 on Sunday morning. All helms must attend the briefing.

Eligibility and HandicapMonohull dinghies with a recognised PY number or Multihulls with an SCHRS number are eligible. The race will be calculated using the Portsmouth Yardstick system for monohulls and multihulls; for the multihulls a ‘Club’ PY number will be calculated from the SCHRS number.

Mobile TelephonesAll boats shall carry at least one mobile phone in a waterproof bag, programmed with the Distress (OOD) telephone number (available at the briefing). It is recommended (but not mandatory) that:Every crewmember of a boat takes a mobile phone in a waterproof bag, ideally from differentnetworks, and that the phone is kept on the person not on the boatAll boats take flares

InsuranceAll boats shall carry a minimum of £250,000 third party liability insurance.

Entry FeeThere will be no entry fee.

PrizesA prize will be presented on the day for the first boat on Handicap. The Club’s Island Cup trophy will be presented at the annual prize giving to the first-placed boat from Hayling Ferry SC.

Non-HFSC CompetitorsPlease let us know by Friday 5th June if you want to take part. The Sailing Instructions will be emailed to you.We are aware that you may not be able to bring your boat ashore at HFSC, so for single-handers we can bring forms to you, or arrange for someone to hold your boat whilst you attend the briefing. If you want to trailer your boat to the Club then this must be arranged beforehand since we have a locked gate that you have to get through.
